The Small Room is well, a little small

    By | December 23, 2007

First the good things. The Small Room is a podcast which is supposed to be an internet radio show and it is recorded live in Brisbane and listeners can call in while it is being recorded. It is available as a podcast around once a week and is an hour long show which plays music and features a lot of chatting between the hosts Mark and Lizzie and has a few stories and anecdotes and also features some bands from Down Under. The good thing about this show is the setup and the fact that it has internet streaming, message boards and users can call in through Skype. Basically it is a very internet friendly setup and something that could get internet users quite interested.

That is however where the good things end. The actual execution of the show is quiet disappointing and the conversation between the hosts is rather uninteresting. While the two being married have great rapport, they topics are never quite riveting.  There is never enough in the conversation to keep you listening for forty five minutes and that is where the show struggles. People are supposed to be calling in and they are not being very obliging. So naturally these two have the carry the show the whole way true and to be honest it isn’t easy to keep listeners hooked to a conversation between two people. Unless its gossip of course.

There however has been a lot of effort that has gone into making the show and that needs to be applauded. The whole setup is taut. What fails is however the production of the show. Hopefully however they will improve over time and things may improve as more and more people start calling in as the audience increases. However there is some potential in this project.
